Find your voice

Are you a young Black storyteller with a great idea?

We believe there isn’t enough content made by Black creators in Brasil. Even less by young people from low income backgrounds. We’re here to address the balance.

Spotify created Sound Up to find, train and develop the next generation of diverse creators. It’s our mission in Brasil to empower young Black creators to amplify their voices and stories across the world. You don’t need any prior podcasting experience, just something unique to say and a desire to use podcasts to say it. We’ll help you do the rest.

About the program

Launched in 2018, Sound Up has grown from a local initiative into a global program – reaching hundreds of aspiring creators around the world. Four years on and we’re going strong in Brasil with popular titles like Calunguinha, Pavulagem, Preto Positivo and Raízes all launched off the back of the program.

What to expect

We invite up to ten aspiring creators to join each program event. Here in Brasil that means you’ll be with us for a total of six months and across four distinct phases. You’ll immerse yourself in the art of podcast creation with mentorship and guidance from the Spotify team and experts from the industry. From ideation and storytelling to interviewing, editing and producing, you’ll learn what it takes to make great content and see your identity begin to take shape. At the end of it all you’ll have produced the pilot episode of your own podcast – one that has a chance of becoming a Spotify Original show.

Who are we looking for?

Our program is open to storytellers who have historically not had access to the resources and opportunities present in the growing audio and podcasting space. If you identify as Black and are between the ages of 18 and 24, we want to hear from you. We’ll naturally give preference to storytellers with low family incomes too. No experience is necessary. An eagerness to learn is what’s important here – along with a unique voice and a passion for sharing your ideas.
